Sub-Lieutenant Ronald John Gibson McCurdie of the RNVR was born in Rothesay and attended the High School of Glasgow. In 1942 he matriculated to study for an Arts degree but left in 1943 to join the RNVR (Fleet Air Arm).

McCurdie was posted to the Far East. He died in a plane accident in Ceylon on 7 March 1945.
