Biography of Hayward Gillian Carruthers MacLean

2nd Lieutenant Hayward Gillian Carruthers MacLean of the Seaforth Highlanders was born in Edinburgh. He graduated MA from the University of St Andrews (which he represented in athletics) and studied Law at the University from 1935 until 1937. He was a member of the Scottish Universities Atalanta Club.

MacLean was reported missing in action near Abbeville in France on 4 June 1940, and subsequently presumed killed.
