Biography of John Barklay Barr
Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander John Barkley Barr was born in Blantyre and graduated MB, ChB from the University in 1936. He joined the Royal Navy during the war and served aboard the armed merchant cruiser, HMS Patroclus.
Barkley was killed on 3 November 1940 when his ship was one of three torpedoed by the German submarine U-99 off the coast of Northern Ireland.
