Biography of James Muir

James Muir graduated MA from the University in 1776. He was born in Cumnock on 12 April 1757, son of Reverend George Muir.

Muir was ordained in London, and became a Minister of the Scottish Presbyterian Church in Bermuda, and Principal of an Academy there, 1781-88. Reverend Muir went on to become the Minister of the first Presbyterian Church at Alexandria, Virginia, USA, from 1789 to 1820, and was awarded DD from the University of Yale in 1819. He died on 8 August 1820.
