Biography of John Campbell Coutts

John Campbell Coutts graduated BSc from the University in 1911. He was born in Callao, Peru, son of David Coutts, a manager and dockmaster for the floating dock that had been sent from Glasgow by Messrs. Randolph Elder & Company to Callao.

Coutts' father had died before he enrolled at the University in 1906, aged 16. He attended classes in Mathematics, Chemsitry, Engineering, Drawing and Physics, graduating on 24 April 1911.

After graduation, Coutts was registered as an apprentice Civil Engineer in Glasgow.
