Biography of Adrian Andrew Forrester
Adrian Andrew Forrester graduated MB CM from the University in 1897. He was from Glenmiln, Campsie Glen, Stirlingshire, now part of Glasgow.
Forrester's father was deceased when he matriculated at the University in the summer session of 1892 to study Medicine. Over the course of his medical studies, Forrester was awarded three second class certificates (for Practical Botany in Winter session 1893-94; Physics in summer session 1893; and Pathology in summer session 1895); He was given two commendations for Surgery (junior class of summer 1895) and Clinical Surgery (senior division in 1896); and received an 'Honourable Mention' for drawings of class specimens in Practical Pathology in summer session 1895 under Professor Joseph Coats.
Forrester went on to join the Royal Navy Medical Service, and in February 1905 he was posted to the Royal Naval Hospital at Chatham.
On 16 February 1914 Forrester was appointed Fleet Surgeon aboard HMS Implacable. He was killed in action at Dardanelles, Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, aged 42.
Fleet Surgeon Forrester is memorialised at Chatham Naval Memorial, which commemorates those members of the Royal Navy who had no known grave, and often who died at sea where no permanent memorial could be provided.
