Walter Hermann Kiep graduated from the University of Glasgow MB ChB in 1908. He was born on the 2nd of June 1885. Walter studied a variety of subjects including Surgery and Clinical Surgery. Throughout his time at university, Walter received a number of prizes including a junior First Class Medal in Anatomy, a Second Class certificate in Physiology and a First Class certificate in Zoology as well as a Second Class certificate in Practical Zoology. He graduated on 14th July 1908 with Commendation and an outstanding undergraduate record

After university, Walter became an ophthalmic surgeon at the Bradford Eye and Ear Hospital, he was assistant surgeon to the Ophthalmic Institution of Glasgow and honorary oculist to the Royal Hospital of Sick Children.

During WWI he held a commission in the R.A.M.C. as a specialist in ophthalmology at Malta 1915-19. After WWI he was a professor of Ophthalmology in the Egyptian Government Medical school at Cairo.

Kiep was also ophthalmic referee under the Workmen’s Compensation Act and had been president of the North of England Ophthalmological Society.

Walter Hermann Kiep died on 21st November 1943, aged 58.

Walter’s Uncle, Johann Nicolaus Kiep , was also a graduate of the University.
