John Young 
Biography of John Young
John Young (c 1747-1820) was a graduate of the University and Professor of Greek from 1774 until his death in 1820. In 1781 he was appointed one of the curators of the College chambers and he was elected Clerk of Senate in 1779.
Born in Glasgow, Young matriculated to study at the University in 1764 and graduated MA in 1769. He taught as an assistant to the Professor of Greek, James Moor, and in 1774 he was appointed Moor's successor. His students nicknamed him "Cocky Bung" on account of his father's occupation, a cooper.
