Myles Muir Dryden held ths Chair of Management Studies from 1972 until 1992.

Dryden was born in Dundee and gained the Diploma in Commerce at Dundee School of Economics before going to the London School of Economics where he graduated BSc (Economics) with Honours in 1955. He then studied at Cornell University, USA where he gained a Master's degree in Business Administration in 1957 and a PhD in 1961.

At Cornell he combined teaching with research primarily concerned with statistical and computer work. After two years (1961-63) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as Assistant Professor of Industrial Management, he returned to Scotland as a Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. He was appointed to a Readership in Economics in 1967.
