Biography of Adolph Aaron Saphir
Aaron Adolph Saphir graduated BA from the University of Glasgow in 1854. He was born in 1831 in Budapest to Jewish parents.
In 1843, as a result of the Scottish Free Church mission to Hungary, Saphir's family converted. Saphir subsequently came to study Theology at the University of Glasgow. After graduation, Saphir continued his studies at the Free Church College in Edinburgh, and was later ordained as an English Presbyterian Minister, serving at Laygate, South Shields, and then St Mark's, Greenwich. As Minister of Trinity Presbyterian in Nothing Hill, he gave a series of lectures which were transcribed into books.
Saphir ministered at Belgrave, London, from 1831, and obtained the degree of Doctor of Divinity from Edinburgh University in 1878. He died in 1891.
