Biography of John Pagan
John MacMichan Pagan (1802-1868) was Regius Professor of Midwifery at the University from 1840 to 1868. He was Vice-Rector, 1852-1853.
Born near Auchinleck, Pagan graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1823. He went into private practice in Preston in Lancashire in 1825 but returned to Glasgow in 1827, when he became a member of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Faculty's librarian. He was a lecturer at the Portland Street Medical School in the city from 1830 until his appointment to the Regius Chair in 1840.
