John Edward York 
Biography of John Edward York
John Edward York attended the University in 1947 taking classes in Anatomy and Physiology.
He was born in Bermuda, son of Edward, a coal merchant. He moved with his family to the UK, where he began his education at Glasgow, before attending the St George's Hospital Medical School in London, qualifying in 1952.
York embarked on a career as an anaesthetist, serving initially with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Malaya for three years. Upon his return, he continued training in anaesthesia at St George’s Hospital and the Royal Dental Hospital, before he was appointed Resident in Anaesthesia at the Toronto General Hospital in 1959. From 1961-62 he was Fellow in the Respiratory Failure Unit of the Toronto General Hospital, and was appointed to the staff of the Department of Anaesthesia in July 1962.
Dr York was involved in the early development of inhalation therapy (respiratory technology), and took on responsibility for the Department of Inhalation Therapy at the Toronto General Hospital.
