Biography of Eric George MacKay Donald
Eric George MacKay Donald attended the University for one year in 1922, aged 26, to study Mercantile Law presumably as part of his work at Davidson Workman, chartered accountants of 190 West George Street, Glasgow.
Donald was born in Ipoh, son of George MacKay, a civil engineer. Before enrolling at the University, Donald served during WWI, firstly enlisting as a midshipman (officer cadet) in the Royal Navy in September 1914 and moved up the ranks to become Lieutenant in 1919. He retired as commander lieutenant on 26 April 1920.
Donald returned to serve as retired commander lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII, and was commander of HMCS Sherbrooke from 1941 to 1942.
