Biography of Hugh Vincent Sweeney

Hugh Vincent Sweeney graduated MB ChB from the University in 1921. He was born in Dungloe in County Donegal, Ireland, in 1895. His father, James, was a merchant.

Sweeney graduated BA from the National University of Ireland before coming to Glasgow in 1916 to study Medicine, where he lived at 389 Springham Road. Sweeney graduated on 17 October 1921 and his final marks show that he had a particular flair for midwifery.

After graduating, Sweeney moved to 408 Cumbernauld Street, Glasgow, but was included in a list of untraceable medical practitioners in the 1926 edition of the British Medical Journal. He returned to the University in the 1930s, undertaking a Diploma in Public Health (1932-33), and attending a Clinical Pathology class in the summer of 1937.
