Biography of Reverend Murdoch Lamont
Murdoch Lamont studied Theology at the University from 1908 to 1911.
He was born on the 30 April 1865 in Murray Harbour Road, Prince Edward Island, Canada, son of teacher Ewen Lamont. Lamont was educated at Lyndale Secondary College in Price Edward Island, then went on to study at Boston University. He was a carpenter in Boston when he came to the University of Glasgow in Scotland to become a Church of Scotland minister.
Lamont enrolled in 1908 at the age of 43. During his three years at the University, he took classes in Divinity, Church History, Hebrew and Biblical Studies, being awarded a prize for Professor James Cooper's senior Church History class.
In 1912, Lamont was licenced by the Presbytery of Glasgow. He went on to become a church assistant in St Columba's, Glasgow, before becoming Minister of St Mark's in 1916.
Lamont's last parish was in Derbaig, Isle of Mull, before his death in 1927.
