John Annan Bryce 
Biography of John Annan Bryce
John Annan Bryce graduated MA from the University in 1866.
He was born in Glasgow, son of James Bryce, a schoolteacher, and brother of James Bryce, LLD 1886.
Bryce went on to graduate BA from Oxford in 1872 and worked as an East India merchant. He served as a member of the Legislative Council of Burma. On returning to London, he was employed as a Director of various businesses, including the Bombay, Baroda, and Central India Railway and Burma Railways. In 1908 he was elected MP for the Inverness Burghs.
In 1910 Bryce bought Garnish Island, also known as Ilnacullin, off Glengarriff, County Cork from the British War Office. Together with Harold Peto, he created the gardens that are popular among tourists today.
